<dc:description xml:lang="en">This simplified 3D geological model of the lower Inn Valleys subsurface, Tyrol, Austria, was created by the University of Innsbruck as part of the ÖAW funded project GeoEN-Inntal (2022-2025). The model reaches down to the European basement, below the Alpine basal thrust. Many tectonic boundaries are displayed in this model, such as Cretaceous thrusts, (which lead to the formation of big thrust sheets in the Northern Calcareous Alps, for example), but also extensive faulting of younger faults are cutting the nappe stack. These are, for example, the Inntal shear zone and the kinematically connected Subtauern ramp.</dc:description>
<dc:description xml:lang="en">Using cross-sections from Ortner et al. (2006), the tectonic map according to the interpretation of Ortner and Kilian (2022), as well as numerous auxiliary profiles, the most important tectonic units and their boundaries were visualised in 3D using MOVE software from Petex. In order to create these boundaries in space, information from 2D sections was extended to three-dimensional surfaces using triangulation (Delauney). However, due to the complexity of the project area and the lack of depth information from boreholes and seismics, this is a highly simplified, conceptual model of the deep subsurface beneath the Inn Valley.</dc:description>
